a bo...

it's a wretched situation by any standard
a border isn't set in concrete or steel
it's a figment of the imagination
the history surrounding the mexican border is nothing short of embarrassing
starting with the alamo
the mexicans won that one but lost the war

i lived about 30 miles from the border in arizona for 3 years and spent considerable time questioning people on the problems and tensions-- the place where i lived was a sanctuary refuge for pilgrims to get rested before moving on to the next set of problems in a strange land

the consensus i came to understand was things were fine when the border was generally open people walked back and forth to work for a day for a week for a month for a year...these same people sent money to their loved ones back home...most of the discontent came from people who owned land near the border from gated communities and golf course managers who were horrified when small groups would camp out for a night in a shaded protected area and take water from the sprinkling system and poop in the sand bunkers

jesuit astronomers whom i befriended spent time during the daylight hours finding safe places for immigrants under duress

the problem is clearly not the desperation of the poor
but the arrogance and gold-heartedness of the rich

give any mexican any latino a piece of land access to water and a few chickens and within a few years you will have a successful self sustaining citizen

the crime is truly this:
the price tag we put on land

hey you're like me
in the blogosphere wasteland
where nobody bothers to go

so sad

i admire your persistence

jh

.....jhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10043530995274885830noreply@blogger.com
