                             for Bill Berkson

The canonical canvas and bamboo chair
That Alvar Aalto didn't design
For the Hemingway safari in Kenya in 1953

Stands unused and undiscovered in a dusty
Closet behind the Universal Lot
Right beside Buddy Ebsen's artificial knee joints.

Ah have you done the little tour bus trip through the old US studios in Burp-bank, Sir F.? Quite entertaining to see old Beav's pad, or western sets used like on Bonanza (tho' some shot up around Tahoe), the Waltons, some creepy ghoulie stuff (for the Munsters, ah believe)--nothin' but ...Phony. Nearly enough to cause a fanboy into taking parisian postmodernists and the "simulacra" jazz seriously.

Yeah, but do you get the Ebsen reference?

Not completely...Buddy once had artificial knee-joints in Barnaby Jones?? Jed Clampett?? Like one of Hem's phony safari chairs...

...Simulacra at the very least . Then, what could be more bodacious than Nancy Culp phantasias....

Do a Wiki on Ebsen and you'll find it.

Done. B.E. was the original Tin man in Oz! Raht? Or something like that. He got sick tho' from some mysterious Oz-substance and was replaced, but some of his voice-overs still remained.
